Ghana Is In A Strange Moment – Our Santa Claus Democracy Is Confused And Paralysed – Yaw Nsarkoh

Former Executive Vice President of Unilever Ghana and Nigeria, Yaw Nsarkoh, says Ghana is living in a very strange moment.

According to him, the country is facing serious, existential threats, but our democracy is not responding. It is weak, confused, and paralysed.

He described Ghana’s democracy as a “Santa Claus Democracy” that is largely inert, paralysed, impotent, and even somewhat confused.

“We are living in a strange moment right now,” Yaw Nsarkoh stated.

He explained that by “Santa Claus Democracy,” he means a democracy where politicians act like Santa Claus – they only share gifts, money, and promises to win votes, instead of solving real problems.

He said this kind of democracy does not build the future. It only shares things to make people happy for a short time.

According to him, even though Ghana is facing big dangers like economic hardship, unemployment, corruption, and youth hopelessness, our democracy is just standing still. It is not acting, it is not fixing anything, and it looks confused.

Yaw Nsarkoh is a respected business leader and thinker who has led big companies like Unilever Ghana and Nigeria. When he speaks about leadership and governance, many people listen.

His warning is simple: Ghana cannot survive with a democracy that only gives out gifts during elections but does nothing bold between elections.

He believes if Ghana does not move away from this Santa Claus Democracy to a serious, working democracy that solves problems, the country will continue to be stuck, even while facing serious threats.

He says this is a strange moment because the danger is big, but the response from our democracy is small, weak, and confused.
