“Mchukue Kuna Mwingine Tayari” Kenyans Respond to Ugandans After Ruto-Swap Demand Over Pioneer

Kenyans have responded to Ugandan social media users who asked them to swap President William Ruto over the Pioneer housing project.

The reactions followed Ruto’s handover of keys to 2,157 homeowners at the Pioneer Affordable Housing Project in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, according to TUKO.

The KSh5.3 billion estate has 15 residential blocks, each with 14 floors, and includes 104 shops, a clinic and a kindergarten.

Social housing one room units cost KSh640,000, with monthly repayments of about KSh3,800 under the Tenant Purchase Scheme.

The conversation began with a Ugandan user who asked Kenyans to give Uganda Ruto in exchange for Museveni.

The user claimed traders in Kampala can no longer afford rent after four decades of Museveni’s rule.

The user added that KSh620,000, roughly the cost of a one bedroom unit at Pioneer, cannot secure a studio room in Uganda.

Many Kenyans reacted with jokes and political remarks in the comment section of the story shared on Facebook.

A commenter said Ugandans are still in the 1960s, while others told them to take both leaders.

Sifuna was also mentioned, with a commenter saying Kenya already has him and Ugandans can simply take him.

Another joked that within 30 minutes of getting Ruto, he would be asking for Mara Moja and Panadol.

A different commenter said not now, maybe after 2047, while someone else wrote that Ugandans should take him as a top up.

Another wrote that there should be no Uganda in Kenya, and a separate comment joked about registered voters from Uganda.

A supporter of the president defended him, saying Ruto is loved across the globe.

Critics in Kenya have questioned whether the Pioneer prices truly serve low income earners, according to TUKO.

They have also raised concerns about high taxation and public debt.

The project is part of a plan for 12,429 affordable housing units in Uasin Gishu County, valued at KSh29.9 billion.
