Supercomputer bumps Tottenham up predicted Premier League table after Coventry win

At the start of the season, no one would have guessed that Tottenham fans would have had to wait more than two months to see their side win a Premier League fixture.

That elusive win finally arrived on Monday as Spurs overcame Coventry City 3-1 and moved out of the relegation zone for the first time this season.

On his first start in nearly 18 months, James Maddison put the Lilywhites ahead in the first half with what was arguably the best goal of his Tottenham career so far.

While Jack Rudoni levelled the score just after the interval, a first Spurs goal for Omar Marmoush and a late strike by substitute Ben Davies ensured that Roberto De Zerbi’s men doubled their points tally for the season.

The win over Frank Lampard’s men has significantly affected Opta’s prediction on where Spurs will finish this season.

Following the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, the Supercomputer predicted that Spurs will finish in 16th place, just a one-place improvement from their last two seasons.

However, Opta’s new forecasts show that the Lilywhites are now on course to finish in 13th place, with an expected 45.58 points over the course of the season.

De Zerbi’s men have leapfrogged both Crystal Palace and Hull in the predicted table following the latest round of results after the Eagles and the Tigers both suffered defeats over the weekend.

Despite jumping three places in the predicted table, relegation remains a realistic possibility for the North London club, as per Opta.

The website gives Tottenham a 19.24 per cent chance of finishing in the bottom three, which is the eighth-highest across the division.

In stark contrast, Spurs have been handed just a 0.04 per cent chance of qualifying for the Champions League and just a 2.88 per cent chance of making it into next season’s Europa League.
