“Tunataka Ruto” Ugandans Beg Kenyans to Swap Ruto For Museveni After Ruto’s Big Move Trends

President William Ruto has attracted attention from Ugandan social media users following the launch of an affordable housing project in Eldoret, with some comparing Kenya’s development efforts to the situation in their own country.

The discussion emerged after Ruto handed over keys to 2,157 homeowners at the Pioneer Affordable Housing Project in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. The development, valued at KSh5.3 billion, is part of the government’s wider plan to expand access to affordable housing and improve living conditions for Kenyans.

The housing estate consists of 15 residential blocks, each with 14 floors. It also features shops, a kindergarten, a clubhouse, a swimming pool, a gym, a clinic and sports facilities.

Pictures and information about the development attracted reactions from social media users across the border, with some Ugandans expressing admiration for the project.

One user, identified as @Kirya_Ug, suggested that Kenyans should exchange Ruto for Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni. The remark sparked discussion about leadership, infrastructure and economic opportunities in the two neighbouring countries.

Other users joined the conversation, with some arguing that Kenya was making progress under Ruto’s administration. One commenter suggested that the country could achieve even more development if the president were given additional time to implement his plans.

Another user questioned why some Kenyans criticised Ruto despite the development projects being undertaken by his administration.

The reactions reflected the different opinions people hold about political leadership and public investment. However, the comments represented individual views expressed online and should not be taken as the position of all Ugandans.

During the housing handover ceremony, Ruto expressed confidence in the project and compared the development to Singapore, a country widely recognised for its modern infrastructure and urban planning.

The project has also drawn attention to the government’s affordable housing programme, which aims to help more Kenyans own homes.

The Pioneer estate offers several categories of housing at different prices. Social housing units include one room homes priced at KSh640,000, two room units at KSh960,000 and three room units at KSh1.28 million. Other options include studio apartments and larger residential units at higher prices.

Despite the positive reactions from some Ugandans, questions remain about whether the homes are affordable for ordinary Kenyans, particularly those with low incomes.

The discussion surrounding the Eldoret project has therefore extended beyond housing, highlighting wider conversations about development, leadership and the cost of living in East Africa.
