Apple’s $79 iPhone Duo Case Attaches With Adhesive Strips

Apple's $79 iPhone Duo Case secures to the device using adhesive rather than magnets, based on accounts from buyers who have handled one ahead of the foldable's launch. It arrives in two pieces. Each half is lined with adhesive strips along the inside edges that fix it to the iPhone Duo, Apple's first book-style foldable phone.

An included insert walks users through the process. Owners pull away the protective film covering the adhesive, position each half onto the Duo, and press down firmly to seat the pieces. The case is polycarbonate, offered in Sand and Navy Blue. It shields the back of the device around the camera bump and the front around the outer display. There is a cutout for the front screen, and the inside panel goes unprotected when the phone is unfolded.

The adhesive approach mirrors what other foldable cases have used. Parker Ortolani, who handled the case, described it as having a grippy feel while noting it relies on adhesive stickers like other foldables.

Buyers who want a magnetic option can turn to the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand, priced at $129. That case attaches magnetically and skips adhesive entirely, though it leaves the sides of the device unprotected and covers the front display in use. Magnets let it swing back when the outer display is needed, and the kickstand hinges are metal underneath.

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo began this week. The first devices are scheduled to reach customers next Friday, though cases are available in stores immediately. Initial stock has already sold out, pushing shipping estimates to January 25 for all colors and capacities. Apple retail employees have been instructed to discourage shoppers from arriving on launch day, October 23, to purchase an iPhone Duo they have not pre-ordered, since there will likely be no walk-in stock available.

The iPhone Duo pairs a 5.4-inch outer screen with a 7.6-inch inner display that carries only a faint crease along the fold. An EU energy label published by Apple confirms a total battery capacity of 4,883 mAh, drawn from 2,962 mAh and 1,921 mAh cells.
