TOT 3-1 COV: Match Review And Updated English Premier League Table
According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, October 19, 2026, Tottenham Hotspur secured their first Premier League victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Coventry City, thanks to goals from James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies.
Roberto De Zerbiβs side entered the seventh round of league fixtures still searching for their first win, but Maddison gave the hosts an early advantage in the 14th minute with an outstanding finish.
The midfielder collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area before curling an excellent effort into the top corner. The goal was particularly significant for Maddison, a former Coventry youth player, who had not scored or started a match since May 2025.
Tottenham continued to push forward, and Dominic Solanke thought he had doubled their lead five minutes later. However, his effort was ruled out for offside. Solanke subsequently sent another attempt over the crossbar before Micky van de Ven produced a crucial last-ditch tackle to deny Brandon Thomas-Asante before the interval.
Coventry responded strongly after the restart and equalised four minutes into the second half. Jack Rudoni reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area and squeezed his effort past Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to make it 1-1.
The home side increased their attacking intensity and restored their advantage nine minutes later through Marmoush. The forward produced a superb curling shot from 18 yards into the far corner to score his first goal in Tottenham colours.
Tottenham managed the closing stages while searching for a third goal, and Dejan Kulusevskiβs introduction provided another notable moment for the home supporters. The Swedish midfielder made his first appearance in 526 days after an extended spell on the sidelines with injuries.
The hosts eventually added a third in stoppage time when substitute Ben Davies drove the ball into the net to register his second goal of the season and complete the 3-1 victory.
The result lifted Tottenham from the bottom of the Premier League table to 16th place, while Coventry dropped to 17th on goal difference. The Sky Blues also suffered their sixth consecutive defeat against Tottenham.
