Jet Carrying Gachagua Expected Back at JKIA Soon as Intel Reveals Why He’s Cutting Short His US Trip
Rigathi Gachagua Cuts Short US Tour Amid Growing Political Pressure at Home
Kenyan opposition leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reportedly decided to cut short his tour of the United States amid growing political pressure and internal challenges facing his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Gachagua, who has been engaging Kenyans living abroad, had visited several American cities, including Dallas, Boston, Spokane, Portland and Kansas, as part of his diaspora outreach programme. However, reports indicate that he has opted to return to Kenya earlier than initially planned to address pressing political developments.
A private flight carrying the former Deputy President has reportedly been scheduled to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) next week, setting the stage for his return to the country’s increasingly competitive political landscape.
According to the reports, Gachagua’s decision comes as concerns grow over his political influence in the Mount Kenya region, traditionally considered one of his most important support bases.
His DCP party has reportedly encountered internal disagreements, with disciplinary disputes creating tension among officials and other key stakeholders. The developments threaten to complicate efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Disagreements over opposition coalition strategies have also reportedly intensified, increasing pressure on Gachagua to intervene directly and help establish a common political direction.
The former Deputy President left Kenya in late August and has since spent considerable time engaging Kenyans in the diaspora and building international networks.
However, his prolonged absence has reportedly raised concerns among some allies, particularly as rival political factions seek to expand their influence in the Mount Kenya region.
His anticipated return to Nairobi could therefore trigger renewed consultations, internal party discussions and possible political realignments within the opposition.
With the 2027 elections approaching, Gachagua faces the challenge of resolving internal disputes, consolidating his support base and strengthening his party’s position.
Although the reported reasons for his early return have not been independently confirmed, his next political moves could prove significant for the opposition’s preparations for the upcoming electoral contest.
