Investigators in the case against crime-accused Suliman Carrim have positively verified his return flight ticket and his residential address.

The Pretoria Magistrates Court is hearing arguments on bail after Carrim was arrested last week.

The 49-year-old was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport with his wife on Thursday night before boarding a flight to Dubai, but he insists he intended to return to South Africa.

He’s facing a charge of contravening the Commission’s Act for repeatedly failing to appear at the Madlanga Commission.

Despite the positive verification, prosecutors are still opposing Carrim’s release on bail.

“This very same court could find itself in the position where the applicant does not remain in attendance of the proceedings. This is prompted by the applicant’s response to a question to him under cross-examination that said should he be granted bail and does not get any better, he is not going to be in attendance of the proceedings.”

The bail application has been postponed to next Wednesday for judgment
