From The Day Atiku Became The ADC Candidate, He Has Never Scheduled A Meeting With Nigerians – Sale

Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed of the Kwankwasiyya Movement has questioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s campaign activities, arguing that presidential hopefuls should make direct contact with citizens a priority before the 2027 general election.

Mohammed expressed his concerns during an interview with Trust TV on Monday, October 19, 2026. His comments followed Atiku’s emergence as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), prompting a discussion about how opposition politicians were preparing to win public support.

The movement’s spokesperson compared Atiku’s approach with the reported activities of Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who are associated with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket.

Mohammed questioned whether Atiku had made sufficient efforts to meet Nigerians since securing the ADC nomination. He said, “From the day Atiku became the ADC candidate, he has never scheduled a meeting with Nigerians.”

He argued that candidates should not rely primarily on public statements to communicate their intentions. Instead, he maintained that visiting communities and speaking directly with residents would give politicians opportunities to hear citizens’ concerns and explain their proposed solutions.

According to Mohammed, Obi and Kwankwaso had been travelling to different locations, interacting with people and discussing their plans for tackling the country’s challenges.

He contrasted these reported engagements with what he considered an excessive focus on political disputes and criticism within Atiku’s camp. Mohammed maintained that voters needed clear explanations of candidates’ priorities rather than continued exchanges between competing political figures.

The spokesperson also challenged claims allegedly linking the NDC presidential ticket to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He suggested that portraying Obi and Kwankwaso as aligned with the governing party could weaken their standing among opposition supporters.

Mohammed maintained that parties should concentrate on presenting credible programmes, demonstrating their readiness to govern and explaining how their policies would improve Nigerians’ lives. He added that the NDC was pursuing efforts to strengthen its nationwide presence as preparations for the next election continued.
