Natembeya Raises Alarm After Midnight Withdrawal of His Security Guards

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has raised alarm after his state-assigned police security officers were abruptly withdrawn. He said officers guarding his official and private residences were recalled at midnight without prior notice or explanation.

Speaking to reporters, Natembeya described the withdrawal as political intimidation intended to silence him. He warned that losing his state security detail could threaten his personal safety and disrupt his official duties as county governor.

The security withdrawal reportedly followed chaos and gunfire during a political rally in Kabuchai, Bungoma County, where Natembeya was campaigning. Police authorities indicated that the officers had been recalled to submit reports concerning firearms discharged during the incident.

Natembeya has demanded an official explanation from Inspector General of Police over the sudden decision. He questioned the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal, insisting that public officials deserve protection under the law regardless of their political affiliations.

Following the withdrawal, the Trans Nzoia County government reportedly deployed its own enforcement officers to guard the governor’s residences. The county personnel took over sentry duties to maintain security as questions emerged over the police decision.

Political allies of Natembeya condemned the move, describing it as possible harassment targeting leaders perceived to oppose the government. They called on police leadership to remain impartial and ensure state security agencies are not used for political purposes.

Despite losing his state-provided police protection, Natembeya maintained that he would continue performing his responsibilities without fear. He insisted that intimidation and political pressure would not distract him from serving residents or participating in political activities.
