Murkomen Mocks Natembeya With ‘Commando for Buying Coffins’ Remark

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has attracted attention after making a pointed remark about Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in a video circulating on social media.

In the clip shared by Lightcast TV Kenya on X, Murkomen is heard saying, “Natembeya anasema yeye ni komando wa kununua majeneza,” which translates to, “Natembeya says he is a commando for buying coffins.”

The comment has drawn interest amid the ongoing political exchanges between Murkomen and Natembeya, who have disagreed publicly over development projects and leadership in Trans Nzoia County.

On October 10, 2026, Murkomen criticised the governor over proposed infrastructure projects, including a hospital and the upgrading of Kitale Stadium. The Interior CS argued that disagreements over the projects were preventing residents from benefiting from development initiatives.

Murkomen also indicated that Trans Nzoia residents would have an opportunity to choose a governor willing to cooperate with the national government in the 2027 General Election. His remarks added to the political tension between the two leaders.

However, the full context of the “commando wa kununua majeneza” remark could not be independently established from the circulating clip alone. Natembeya’s response to this specific statement was also not established from the available material.

As political competition builds ahead of the 2027 polls, exchanges between national government officials and county leaders are likely to remain a subject of public debate, particularly when they touch on development, leadership and accountability.
