I’m Supporting President Tinubu, But That Does Not Mean I Am Supporting Him As An APC Member–Jackrich

I’m Supporting President Tinubu, But That Does Not Mean I Am Supporting Him As An APC Member–Jackrich

High Chief Sobomabo Jackrich, leader of the Rivers Grassroots Movement, has explained that his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election does not mean he belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jackrich made the clarification during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he discussed his political position, his relationship with the ruling party and the grievances affecting him and his followers.

During the interview, the presenter asked whether the APC leadership was aware of the complaints raised by Jackrich and members of his political group.

Responding, Jackrich explained that his support for Tinubu was based on his personal political convictions rather than membership of the president’s party.

He maintained that supporting a presidential candidate did not require an individual to belong to the political party through which the candidate contested an election.

Clarifying his position, Jackrich said, “I Am Supporting President Tinubu, But That Does Not Mean I Am Supporting Him As A Member Of The APC; I Have My Own Political Background And Can Support Any Candidate I Choose.”

The Rivers-based political figure also recalled his participation in the 2023 Rivers State governorship election, which he contested under the platform of the National Rescue Movement (NRM).

His reference to his political background underscored his position that he could maintain his political identity while supporting a candidate from another party.

Jackrich’s comments highlighted the distinction between political party membership and support for an individual candidate. According to his explanation, his decision to support Tinubu should not be interpreted as an indication that he had joined the APC or abandoned his political group.

The clarification comes as political figures and groups continue to express their positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with support for candidates sometimes extending beyond the boundaries of their parties.

Jackrich also made it clear that his support for the president did not mean he had abandoned his concerns about issues affecting him and his followers.

His position suggests that backing Tinubu and raising grievances about the treatment of members of his movement are not mutually exclusive. He maintained that his political support should not prevent him from expressing dissatisfaction with matters he considers important.
