Hope Uzodimma Never Criticised Obi. When Asked About Obi, He Would Say, ‘Obi Is My Brother’ – Opara

In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, on Monday, October 12, 2026, Maxwell Opara, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives candidate for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency in Imo State, discussed Peter Obi’s political relationship with Southeast leaders and criticised the approach some politicians have taken towards the former Anambra State governor.

Opara maintained that political disagreements should not prevent politicians from recognising relationships and shared backgrounds. He referenced Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, while discussing how political leaders had previously responded to questions about Obi.

According to Opara, “Hope Uzodimma never criticised Obi. When asked about Obi, he would say, ‘Obi is my brother.’” He made the statement while discussing political relations in the Southeast and the different positions politicians have adopted ahead of the 2027 general election.

Opara’s remarks highlighted his argument that politicians should avoid allowing political interests to overshadow relationships among people from the same region. He also questioned why some individuals had become increasingly critical of Obi amid discussions about the next presidential election.

The NDC candidate further argued that political leaders should concentrate on issues affecting Nigerians instead of engaging in personal attacks against opposition figures. He maintained that political differences should be addressed through constructive discussions about policies, leadership, and the country’s future.

He also discussed the importance of the Southeast in the forthcoming election, suggesting that the concerns and political preferences of voters in the region deserved serious attention from political leaders.

He concluded that politicians should approach political disagreements with greater restraint, stressing that relationships and the interests of their communities should not be overlooked during election campaigns.
