Champions League Table After Man United Lost 2-0

According to a report by BBC SPORT on Tuesday October 13, 2026, Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in their Champions League clash, with Pablo Barrios and Ademola Lookman finding the net to hand Diego Simeone’s side an important win.

Manchester United, managed by Michael Carrick, struggled to convert their chances into goals and were further disadvantaged when Leny Yoro received a red card following a VAR review in the second half.

Atletico Madrid took the lead just one minute into the match when Pablo Barrios finished calmly inside the penalty area after receiving a well-timed pass from Alex Baena. The early goal gave the Spanish side confidence as they looked to control proceedings.

Manchester United responded by creating opportunities of their own. Bryan Mbeumo came close in the 12th minute with an effort that narrowly missed the target, while Jan Oblak produced an excellent save to deny him another opportunity shortly afterwards.

Carlos Baleba also threatened from a corner in the 25th minute, but his header went straight into Oblak’s hands. At the other end, Alejandro Grimaldo struck the post with a free kick in the 26th minute as Atletico searched for a second goal.

Johnny Cardoso thought he had doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 44th minute after firing into the bottom corner. However, the goal was ruled out following a VAR review for handball in the build-up.

The visitors continued to search for an equaliser after the restart. Bruno Fernandes came close in the 57th minute, but his effort went narrowly wide.

The United captain had another opportunity in the 70th minute when he struck the crossbar with a powerful shot inside the penalty area. It was a significant missed opportunity for Carrick’s men.

Moments later, their situation worsened when Leny Yoro was sent off in the 74th minute after the referee reviewed the incident using VAR.

Atletico Madrid capitalised on their numerical advantage in the 79th minute. Ademola Lookman reacted quickest to a rebound inside the box and fired the ball into the net to make it 2-0.

Manchester United attempted to find a late response, but Oblak produced an outstanding stoppage-time save to deny Matheus Cunha.

Despite United’s late pressure, Atletico Madrid held on to secure a deserved victory, leaving Carrick with plenty to consider after a difficult Champions League outing.
