Barcelona Hit Galatasaray for Four as Anthony Gordon Opens Champions League Account
According to BBC Sport on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Barcelona delivered a dominant second-half display to defeat Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul, with Anthony Gordon scoring his first Champions League goal for the Catalan club.
Hansi Flick’s side recovered from an early setback to secure the victory, with JoĂŁo Cancelo, FermĂn LĂłpez, Gordon and Karim Adeyemi all finding the net after Galatasaray had taken the lead through Aleksey Batrakov.
Barcelona began the match looking to control possession and quieten the home supporters, but Galatasaray proved dangerous when given space to attack.
After Gordon unsuccessfully appealed for a penalty, Rafael LeĂŁo broke down the left flank and delivered a cutback to Batrakov, who fired into the bottom corner with his effort taking a deflection off Cancelo.
Galatasaray came close to doubling their advantage six minutes later when Barış Alper Yılmaz turned Victor Osimhen’s header into the net. However, a VAR review ruled out the goal for a marginal offside, keeping Barcelona in the contest.
The visitors gradually improved and found their equaliser two minutes before halftime. Dani Olmo redirected the ball into Cancelo’s path, allowing the Portuguese defender to curl a precise finish beyond goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakır and restore parity.
Barcelona emerged for the second half with renewed intensity and took the lead in the 50th minute. Lamine Yamal delivered an inviting cross that FermĂn LĂłpez met with a powerful header, putting the visitors ahead for the first time.
Three minutes later, Yamal produced another moment of quality to create an opening for Gordon, who finished confidently to score his first Champions League goal for Barcelona. The strike followed his first goal for the club just three days earlier, providing another positive moment in his early spell in Spain.
Galatasaray struggled to contain Barcelona’s attacking movement as the visitors continued to create opportunities. Adeyemi, another summer recruit, came off the bench to replace Gordon and quickly made his mark.
The forward sealed the 4-1 victory with a powerful finish from the left side of the penalty area after Gabriel Jesus redirected Yamal’s cross into his path.
Barcelona’s four-goal response after falling behind highlighted their attacking quality and ability to raise their level after the break, while Galatasaray were left to rue their defensive struggles in the second half.
