15-year-old girl shocks mourners as she wakes up in coffin at her own funeral (Video)
A viral video has captured the shocking moment a 15-year-old girl, who was believed to be deceased, suddenly woke up inside her coffin during her funeral in Guatemala.
The shocking incident reportedly unfolded when the teenager, identified as Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, lost consciousness while her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, was driving her to a medical centre.
Her father reportedly stopped the car to check his daughterâs pulse and breathing. After claiming he could detect neither, he declared her dead in the early hours of Saturday morning.
âShe had simply ceased to exist; she died on the way,â Ixcotoyac told local media â according to The Sun.
âI saw that she was no longer breathing and I couldnât feel her pulse on her wrists. It was a very difficult situation for me. She did not go to hospital.â
Eight hours after, a funeral was arranged, with mourners gathering around the family home in the rural village of El Jocote at 2:30 p.m.
In a shocking twist, a coffin was immediately purchased because burying a loved one soon after passing is a common custom in the country.
Dramatic footage from the wake shows mourners gathered around a wooden coffin when Yuleidyâs grieving mother, Lesvia RĂos, leaned over it and noticed faint movement inside.
âI kept saying she was alive; she wasnât dead,â the mother told local media.
âWhen I was crying over her coffin, we opened the window, and she was moving. She was waking up, and suddenly she sat up.â
Family members were left stunned as the teenager, dressed in a pink T-shirt, suddenly sat upright inside the coffin and began speaking.
Her shocked relatives quickly helped her out of the casket and offered her a cup of water. The atmosphere of grief soon turned to celebration, with family members shouting âHallelujahâ as they struggled to comprehend what had happened.
Recounting her terrifying final moments before losing consciousness, Yuleidy said: âMy heart started hurting really badly. It felt heavy, and then I blacked out, like I fainted.â
