WWE legend, John Cena names greatest footballer of all time

According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, October 12, 2026, WWE legend John Cena has named Brazilian football icon Pelé as his choice for the greatest footballer of all time.

Cena made the selection during a TikTok video with sports media outlet talkSPORT, where he was asked to name the greatest athletes across different sports.

When the 49-year-old was asked to choose football’s greatest player, he opted for PelĂ©, the legendary Brazilian forward.

“I’m just going to go old school and say PelĂ©,” Cena said, according to a report by HITC.

Pelé is widely regarded as one of the most influential players in football history. The Brazilian icon enjoyed a remarkable international career with his country and remains the only player to have won three FIFA World Cup titles.

He helped Brazil lift the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970, establishing himself as one of the sport’s most decorated players.

Pelé died in December 2022 at the age of 82, but his achievements continue to feature prominently in debates over the greatest footballer of all time.

Cena’s choice adds another high-profile opinion to the long-running debate, which has also featured modern stars such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
