Mr. President, you are a disappointment. Even our son that you took as the vice president—Baba Ahmed

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a prominent northern Nigerian voice, has warned President Bola Tinubu that voters in the region are fed up with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and could vote it out in 2027, provided the elections are free and fair.

‎Speaking in an interview with SYMFONI TV, Baba-Ahmed disagreed with Mahdi Shehu’s position and accused the president of treating poor Nigerians with contempt. He also criticised the government’s handling of insecurity, the collapse of farming and banditry across the North, and cautioned against tampering with the credibility of the 2027 polls.

Baba-Ahmed questioned how Tinubu could face voters in states such as Kebbi or Borno after staying away for so long. “So how do you go to Kebbi or Borno? What do you say to the people there?” he asked.

According to Baba-Ahmed, residents would have no chance to challenge him. He said no one would be able to tell the president: “Mr. President, you’re a disappointment. Even our son that you took as the vice president, it is only now that you’re sending him around to campaign for you. Yet we knew that while he was with you, you didn’t work with him.”

He added that voters would also be unable to question the decision to retain the same running mate. “Why should we vote for him?” he said, noting that “there will be no opportunity to even do that. There will be no town hall engagements, nothing.”

‎Baba-Ahmed said the situation reflects the president’s attitude towards the very people whose votes he is seeking. “I think it is simply the contempt that President Tinubu has for the same Nigerians he’s asking to vote for him,” he said.
