LHC orders provision of heart medication to Imran Khan’s sister in jail

The Lahore High Court has ordered jail authorities to ensure that Dr Uzma Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, receives her heart medication while reserving its decision on a plea seeking the personal appearance of the Lahore deputy commissioner, CCPO and other officials.

Justice Abhar Gul heard a petition challenging the detention of Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi.

During the hearing, the petitioners’ lawyer, Rana Mudassar Umar, asked the court to summon the superintendent of police, Lahore CCPO and deputy commissioner in person to explain the notification issued for their detention.

The counsel argued that the petitioners were not demanding special privileges in jail but were seeking access to basic necessities. He also requested that Noreen Niazi be provided with clothes, medicines and prescription glasses, along with permission to meet her family members and lawyer.

During the proceedings, Dr Uzma Khan’s husband, Ahad Khan, appeared before the court and informed it that his wife had a heart condition and needed to take three medicines daily. He requested that she be allowed to receive her prescribed medication at the jail every day.

The court directed jail authorities to provide Dr Uzma Khan with her heart medication and reserved its ruling on the request to summon the officials in person.
