Hearts of Oak Coach Kapor Bemoans Poor Quality of Football Pitches in Ghana

Hearts of Oak head coach Nebojša Kapor has raised concerns over the poor quality of football pitches in Ghana, describing the situation as a major challenge for the domestic game. He also expressed hope that the club would one day have a stadium of its own.

The Bosnian-Herzegovinian tactician made these remarks after guiding Hearts of Oak to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over newly promoted Port City in their Ghana Premier League Matchday Six encounter at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, October 11.

Although Kapor admitted that his team still needed to improve, he pointed out that the condition of playing surfaces across the country was a wider problem affecting Ghanaian football.

Speaking to the media after the match, he explained that the University of Ghana Stadium was not owned by Hearts of Oak but served as a national facility intended for use by the wider public.

The coach added that improving the team remained his responsibility, while addressing the broader challenges surrounding football pitches in Ghana was beyond his direct duties.

Hearts of Oak currently play their home matches at the University of Ghana Stadium. However, Kapor hopes the club will eventually acquire a permanent home ground to meet its needs.

The victory over Port City moved the Phobians into second position on the league table, leaving them three points behind league leaders Medeama.

Port City, on the other hand, recorded their second defeat of the season and slipped to fourth place after an impressive start to their debut campaign in Ghana’s top division.

Hearts of Oak will next travel to Tema to take on Vision FC, while Port City will host Dreams FC as the Ghana Premier League prepares for Matchday Seven this weekend.
