Death? Details Emerge on What Happened to Ruto’s PS After Being Involved in a Helicopter Crash Today
Environment Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno is among five people who were injured after a Kenya Forest Service helicopter crashed while attempting to take off at Kericho Golf Club on Monday, October 12.
The incident prompted an emergency response, with the injured occupants rushed to hospital for medical attention. Initial reports indicated that no deaths had been reported following the crash.
According to reports by The Star, the helicopter, registration number 5Y-FSK, came down within the golf club grounds near Famous Hotel in Kericho County.
Kericho County Police Commander Kivindu Kilonzo confirmed that several occupants had sustained injuries and were taken to hospital in stable condition.
Ng’eno, who serves as the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Environment and Climate Change, was among those on board the aircraft when the incident occurred.
Images from the scene showed the damaged helicopter lying on the grass, with part of its tail section separated from the main body. Emergency responders and security officers arrived at the scene to assess the situation and help establish what had happened.
The cause of the crash had not been officially established by the time of reporting. Investigations are expected to determine the circumstances that led to the helicopter going down during take-off.
The incident has also brought attention to aviation safety in Kenya, following other aircraft accidents reported in recent months.
In August 2026, a helicopter crash near Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County claimed seven lives. In September, a training aircraft crashed in the Kipeto area of Kajiado County, killing a student pilot and an instructor.
However, the circumstances surrounding the Kericho incident remain unclear, and authorities have not confirmed whether weather conditions or a technical problem contributed to the crash.
Further updates are expected as officials establish the cause of the accident and provide more information about the condition of those injured.
What do you think should be done to improve aviation safety in Kenya and prevent similar accidents?
