CS Kabogo deliberated with the delegation from Microsoft about the government adopting artificial intelligence.

On Monday, October 12, ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo held a meeting with a delegation from Microsoft led by  Jeff Bullwinkel, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Corporate, External and Legal Affairs in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

CS Kabogo, Bullwinkel and Angela Ng’ang’a of Microsoft East Africa discussed several matters, including adopting artificial intelligence in Government.

They also talked about cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and digital skills delivered through universities and other institutions, and Microsoft’s support for the development of the National AI Policy and for Kenya’s innovation ecosystem.

During the meeting, the multinational software company briefed CS Kabogo on its global restructuring. The ICT boss negotiated with Microsoft to retain Kenyan talent.

“I stressed the importance of retaining local talent, protecting jobs at Microsoft’s Nairobi engineering centre and sustaining investor confidence in Kenya’s technology sector,” Kabogo wrote.

The CS reassured the multinational agency of the government’s commitment to a competitive and transparent environment for investment.

On its part, Microsoft reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Kenya. The Ministry and Microsoft will develop a joint action plan to take these discussions forward.

Kabogo was later joined by Communications Authority of Kenya Director General David Mugonyi as he hosted a delegation from the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA)  at Telposta Towers.

“We discussed collaboration between Kenya and the GSMA in advancing Africa’s digital transformation, key issues in the communications sector, and the importance of mobilising participation from across the continent,” the CS intimated.

The CS assured the delegation led by Sarah Wiggin, Vice President of Sales, that the Ministry will work with the GSMA on a clear and coordinated roadmap to showcase Kenya’s digital achievements, innovations and investment opportunities.

He added that the two entities will work together to support regional collaboration on connectivity and digital inclusion across Africa.

Kabogo noted that both meetings were resourceful in the realisation of a digital Kenya.
