Spanish Media Compare Gabriel Jesus To Ballon d’Or Winner As Barca Star Continues Scoring Streak

Former Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has earned praise from Spanish media after scoring in Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Getafe, with one publication comparing his finishing ability to that of Brazilian football legend Romario.

According to a report by Football London on Sunday, 11 October 2026, Jesus impressed during Barcelona’s La Liga encounter at the Spotify Camp Nou, extending his scoring record to three goals in five appearances for the Catalan club.

Barcelona returned from the international break in impressive fashion, with Anthony Gordon opening the scoring just 71 seconds into the match before Jesus doubled the advantage after half an hour. The hosts eventually completed a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The Brazilian forward joined Barcelona from Arsenal for a reported £8.6 million and has quickly made an impression under manager Hansi Flick, particularly with Raphinha sidelined through injury.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo praised Barcelona’s recruitment strategy, describing Jesus and Gordon as players who were not necessarily “dazzling stars” but represented effective solutions for the squad following the departures of Ferran Torres, Robert Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford.

The publication also highlighted Jesus’ performance against Getafe, noting his ability to contribute beyond scoring goals.

“He often played with his back to goal, acting as a distributor for the midfield,” the report stated. “The first chance he had facing the goal, he put it away: a goal with Romario-esque timing.”

Romario enjoyed a prolific spell at Barcelona, scoring 39 goals and providing 17 assists in 65 appearances for the club.

He was also retrospectively recognised as a Ballon d’Or winner following France Football’s revision of its historical awards.

Another Spanish publication, AS, praised Jesus for his efforts during the international break, when he remained in Barcelona working to maintain his fitness despite missing out on a Brazil national team call-up.

“And the Brazilian, who had spent the 20-day break in Barcelona working hard, seized his opportunity,” AS reported, highlighting both his goal and his defensive contribution.

Meanwhile, Marca awarded the former Arsenal forward a rating of 8.5 out of 10, praising his first-half performance and pressing against Getafe’s defenders.
