Real Madrid Superstar Will Miss El Clasico Clash as Potential Four-Match Ban Looms

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Sunday October 11, 2026, Real Madrid could be without Vinicius Junior for their upcoming El Clasico against Barcelona after the Brazilian winger received a straight red card during their 1-0 La Liga victory over Villarreal.

The forward faces a potential suspension of up to four matches following two separate incidents involving an opponent and the referee.

According to Mundo Deportivo, referee Isidro Diaz de Mera’s report highlighted Vinicius’ alleged hair-pulling incident and his angry reaction after being dismissed. The Spanish Disciplinary Committee is expected to examine the case on Wednesday before determining his punishment.

The controversial incident occurred in the 71st minute when Vinicius pulled Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba’s hair while the ball was in play. Neither player was reportedly competing for possession when the incident happened.

The referee initially allowed play to continue before VAR officials recommended a review for possible violent conduct. Following the review, Vinicius was shown a straight red card.

The classification of the incident under Article 130 could determine the length of his suspension. Depending on the committee’s assessment, the Brazilian could receive a ban ranging from one to three matches for the initial offence.

Vinicius’ behaviour following his dismissal could further complicate the situation. The referee reportedly stated that the winger protested loudly and approached him aggressively, forcing teammates to intervene.

Although the report did not identify any specific insulting remarks, his conduct could attract additional disciplinary measures. If the committee considers his reaction unsporting or disrespectful towards the referee, his suspension could reach four matches.

A two-match ban would already rule him out of Real Madrid’s October 25 El Clasico against Barcelona. However, the final decision remains pending.

Vinicius’ possible absence would present Jose Mourinho with an important selection dilemma. Despite his inconsistent start to the campaign, the Brazilian remains a dangerous attacking threat.

Yan Diomande started on the left wing against Villarreal and scored Madrid’s winning goal. Without Vinicius, Mourinho could retain the same attacking arrangement and give Diomande and Arda Guler greater responsibility.

The disciplinary verdict will therefore influence Madrid’s preparations for their crucial showdown against Barcelona.
