Sowore Reveals What Pastor Adeboye Told Him During Their Recent Meeting

According to Vanguard, published on October 11, 2026, activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has shared details of his recent conversation with Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), revealing what the cleric reportedly told him about his character and future.

Sowore spoke about the encounter during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast after attending the church’s National Thanksgiving Service in Lagos.

He explained that Adeboye recognised him during their meeting and recalled that the pastor had told him he regularly prayed for him. According to Sowore, the cleric also expressed confidence in his eventual success and said he believed his ways were pure.

The meeting took place at the RCCG’s national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Sowore said he initially expected to wait near Adeboye’s car after the service but was later invited to speak with the cleric privately in the church’s vestry.

Their conversation also brought back memories of an encounter in 1996, when Sowore approached Adeboye for assistance with a campaign against cultism in Nigerian universities.

Sowore recalled that he had completed his National Youth Service Corps programme before seeking the pastor’s support for the initiative. According to him, Adeboye backed the campaign and arranged for N10,000 to be provided to help fund the effort.

The activist said the money was used to campaign against cultism on university campuses.

He also recounted how Adeboye asked for permission to pray for him during their recent meeting. Sowore accepted the offer but told the pastor that he would keep his eyes open while the prayer was being said.

According to his account, the prayer was followed by a light-hearted moment in which both men stood up and laughed.

Sowore further clarified that their discussion did not centre on his presidential ambition. He described the encounter as a personal conversation rather than a discussion about his political plans.

When asked whether he had given his life to Christ, Sowore said the subject did not arise during the meeting. He explained that he was not involved in organised religion.

The account highlights a connection between the activist and the RCCG leader that dates back nearly three decades, beginning with Sowore’s efforts to secure support for a campaign against campus cultism.
