La Liga Coach Backs Barcelona Superstar for Ballon d’Or: ‘Magnificent young player

According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday October 11, 2026, Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has backed Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal to win the Ballon d’Or, describing the teenager as a magnificent talent with enormous potential.

His comments followed Barcelona’s convincing 3-0 victory over Getafe, during which Hansi Flick’s side demonstrated their attacking quality despite making several changes to the starting lineup.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Bordalas praised Yamal’s technical ability and admitted that stopping the young winger remains difficult, even when opponents prepare specific defensive strategies.

“We all know Lamine’s level. He’s fantastic. He’s very difficult to stop, even when you take precautions,” the Getafe manager said.

He also highlighted the Barcelona youngster’s ability to beat defenders, create chances and finish scoring opportunities.

“He’s excellent in one-on-one situations, finishing and passing. He’s a magnificent young player, and he shows the level he has,” Bordalas added.

The Spanish coach expressed confidence in Yamal’s continued development and believes the winger has what it takes to claim football’s most prestigious individual award.

“He will improve much more and can win the Ballon d’Or. I have no doubt,” he declared.

However, Bordalas was unhappy with his team’s performance against Barcelona. He admitted that Getafe failed to match their opponents’ intensity and criticised the defensive mistakes that contributed to the defeat.

Barcelona’s opening goal arrived during the first minute, immediately putting Getafe under pressure. The visitors subsequently conceded twice more after defensive errors and lapses in concentration.

Bordalas acknowledged Barcelona’s quality but insisted that his players should have performed better. He also admitted that the result left him disappointed with his team’s inability to compete effectively.

Beyond the match, the Getafe manager praised Barcelona’s enduring footballing identity, crediting Johan Cruyff for establishing the philosophy that continues to influence the club.

He explained that successive managers have maintained Barcelona’s fundamental playing principles despite changes in football over the years.

Yamal has become a central figure in Flick’s project, with his performances attracting growing recognition. Bordalas has now joined several prominent football figures backing the winger for the Ballon d’Or, although it remains uncertain whether he will secure the award at the upcoming ceremony in London.
