I Dropped Out of School to Save My Father’s Business — Yinka Quadri Reveals Why He Left Education
Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has recounted the family circumstances that led him to end his formal education prematurely, explaining that he made the sacrifice to help his father’s trading business continue without depending on a relative.
Speaking on the African A-List Podcast in an interview published on YouTube on October 10, 2026, the actor clarified that nobody forced him to leave school. He said the decision came from his desire to resolve a situation that had persisted within the family for years. “I was the one who stopped my own education, not my father,” Quadri said.
He explained that his father had relied on his late uncle’s son, who was brought into the household to learn trading under an agreement that he would stay for 10 years. However, the arrangement lasted considerably longer than planned. “When it got to that stage, he had used 16 years when I stopped my education. The agreement was for him to spend 10 years because he is my uncle’s son,” he recounted.
Quadri noted that his father had grown attached to the young man and considered him part of the family. His contribution to the business made his departure difficult for his father to accept. “He was like a son to our father. So my father felt if this person leaves, won’t his business collapse?” the actor said.
According to Quadri, the relative’s parents repeatedly requested that their son be allowed to return home, but his father kept asking them to extend his stay. He recalled how the repeated delays eventually created tension between both families.
The actor said he became particularly troubled after overhearing the parents suggest that his father might be hindering their son’s progress. The incident prompted him to speak with his mother, who subsequently informed his father.
Quadri eventually offered to leave school and take on responsibilities that would enable his relative to depart. Explaining how the decision was reached, he said, “Then that night I told them that I would drop out of school in order to support him, and he would be able to release that person. That was how I dropped out of school.”
