Communications Authority Moves to Revoke Licences of 22 TV Stations in Seven-Day Notice
The Communications Authority of Kenya has issued a seven-day notice to revoke the broadcasting licences of 22 television stations. After the period lapses they will no longer be authorised to provide services under the affected licences.
In a Gazette Notice published on Friday October 9 the regulator said the revocation would take effect seven days from the date of publication. It added that any resources held under the licences would revert to the authority once the revocation takes effect.
The listed stations hold commercial free-to-air television licences. These allow them to broadcast content without requiring viewers to pay subscription fees.
Several of the stations are faith-based broadcasters. They include Holy Spirit’s TV and Greater Life Television. Assemblies of God Kenya Television Network and Bethsaida Television are also on the list.
Others facing revocation include Madaras TV and Revival Wave TV. Mshindi TV and Mountain of Peace TV are also affected. Riigi TV and Ngoyoo TV and Nene TV are on the list too. So are WTV and Kim Kim TV and Wendo TV.
The notice also names New Breed Connect TV and Shem TV and Ikengi TV. Thespy TV and Technique View Television and Engako Television Network complete the list.
Separately two media companies have sought to terminate their licences voluntarily. Landmerc Limited wants to end the licence for Tandaza FM. Moreplex Television Limited has asked to terminate three licences linked to Moreplex TV Kenya.
The authority did not state why it intends to revoke the 22 licences.
The regulator has acted against broadcasters before. In 2024 it revoked 75 broadcasting licences. In 2025 it shut down 42 television stations over non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
