Bishop Margaret Wanjiru Recalls Anointing Raila and Ruto, Assures Matiang’i of His Political Future
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i has attended a church service at Jesus Is Alive Ministries in Nairobi, led by Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, where the bishop has delivered a strong message about political leadership and anointing.
During the service, Bishop Wanjiru has recalled how the late former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga once visited her church without notice. She has said the church leaders had to quickly rearrange seats to create space for Raila and his team.
The bishop has said she prayed for and blessed Raila during the visit. She has linked the event to the political changes that followed, including the creation of the position of Prime Minister after the 2007–2008 post-election crisis.
Raila later served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 under a coalition government formed after the disputed 2007 presidential election.
Bishop Wanjiru has also recalled President William Ruto’s visit to her church. She has claimed that she anointed him before he became Kenya’s President in 2022.
However, she has expressed disappointment with Ruto, saying he has not respected the anointing he received.
To explain her message, the bishop has referred to the biblical story of King Saul and David. She has noted that Saul continued to rule even after David had been anointed to become the next king.
The story has been used to explain that an anointing may come before its fulfilment and that leadership changes may take time.
Turning her attention to Matiang’i, Bishop Wanjiru has assured him that the anointing she has given him will not be in vain and that it will eventually come to pass.
Her message has suggested that she believes Matiang’i has a future in political leadership.
Matiang’i previously served in senior government positions under former President Uhuru Kenyatta. His name has also featured in discussions about possible political contenders ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The bishop’s remarks have added to the political discussions surrounding Matiang’i’s future and his possible plans ahead of the next election.
