Arsenal Watch On As Vinicius Fate Becomes Clear After Red Card For Hair Pull

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Vinicius Junior could miss the first Clasico of the season after being sent off for pulling an opponent’s hair during Real Madrid’s La Liga victory over Villarreal.

The Brazilian forward received a straight red card after Video Assistant Referee (VAR) footage showed him tugging Nathan Saliba’s hair in the build-up to what he thought was his second goal of the match.

Vinicius, who came on as a second-half substitute, reacted angrily to the decision and had to be restrained by his team-mates.

Despite playing with 10 men, Real Madrid held on to secure a 1-0 victory over Villarreal, with Yan Diomande scoring the decisive goal following his summer move from RB Leipzig.

Vinicius later apologised to Real Madrid supporters in a post on Instagram, writing: “I am still happy. Sorry to my team and the fans.”

However, according to Spanish publication SPORT, the 26-year-old could receive a two-match suspension, potentially ruling him out of the upcoming league meeting with Barcelona.

The report cited the case of Mallorca defender Johan Mojica, who received a two-match ban after pulling Roger Brugué’s hair during a match against Levante in May.

Real Madrid are scheduled to face Sevilla on October 18 before travelling to Barcelona a week later for the Clasico.

The possible suspension comes as Real seek to close the gap on their rivals, who have won their opening eight league matches of the 2026/27 campaign and hold a six-point advantage.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will be monitoring developments after previously identifying Vinicius as a major transfer target during the summer window.

The Premier League champions were interested in signing the winger to strengthen their attack but ultimately missed out after he signed a new six-year contract with Real Madrid in August.

Arsenal have nevertheless made a strong start to the season, winning eight of their nine matches in all competitions.

Mikel Arteta’s side also secured a comeback victory over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
