Arsenal Suffer Fresh Injury Worry as Star ‘Carried off’ After Leeds Win

According to a report by London Evening Standard on Sunday October 11, 2026, Arsenal have suffered a fresh injury concern after defender Piero Hincapie was reportedly carried off the pitch during the club’s post-match warm-down following their 2-1 Premier League victory over Leeds United.

The Ecuadorian defender appeared to suffer an ankle problem, raising concerns about his availability for the Gunners’ upcoming Champions League fixture against Lille.

Hincapie featured for the final ten minutes of Arsenal’s victory over Leeds. The defender subsequently joined several unused substitutes for running exercises after the final whistle. The routine session, however, ended with a worrying development for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Hincapie appeared to experience discomfort in his ankle during the warm-down. Third-choice goalkeeper Illan Meslier reportedly helped him leave the pitch. Arsenal are yet to determine the full extent of the injury.

The defender is expected to undergo an assessment over the next 48 hours. The results should provide a clearer indication of whether he can feature against Lille on Tuesday night.

Hincapie has endured a limited role during Arsenal’s early-season campaign because of a minor injury. The problem previously forced him to withdraw from Ecuador’s squad during the international break.

He has started just one match this season, featuring in Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Napoli. His appearance against Leeds was his third substitute outing in the Premier League.

The defender could join three teammates on Arsenal’s injury list. Christos Tzolis is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained while representing Greece during the international break. Cristhian Mosquera is also recovering from a similar problem suffered against Aston Villa in August.

William Saliba remains another defensive absentee as he continues his recovery from a persistent back injury.

However, Arsenal received some encouragement before their Leeds victory. Kai Havertz and Ezri Konsa both recovered from their respective fitness concerns in time to feature.

Hincapie’s condition will now be closely monitored as Arteta prepares his squad for another demanding European assignment.
