Will Your Area Be Affected? Kenya Met Lists Counties Set to Receive Rain for the Next 5 Days
The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall in several parts of the country over five days, warning residents to prepare for changing weather conditions.
The forecast, covering Saturday, October 10, to Tuesday, October 13, indicates that different regions will experience varying amounts of rainfall, including moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms.
Nairobi is among the counties expected to receive rain. According to the department’s weekend forecast, the capital will experience light morning showers and moderate afternoon rainfall on Saturday.
Light showers are expected to continue on Sunday and Monday.
In Central Kenya, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a and Kiambu counties are forecast to receive light morning rains throughout the weekend. Some areas may also experience afternoon and night showers.
Nyandarua is expected to record light morning rainfall on Saturday and Sunday, alongside afternoon showers.
Several counties in Eastern Kenya, including Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Machakos and Makueni, are also likely to receive rain during the forecast period.
Western Kenya is expected to experience heavier rainfall. Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia counties are forecast to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms throughout the weekend.
In Kisumu and Siaya, afternoon showers, thunderstorms and lightning are expected on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Mornings are likely to remain sunny.
Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira are also expected to receive rainfall. Moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are forecast in Kisii and Nyamira on Saturday and Sunday.
In the Rift Valley, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, Kericho and Bomet are expected to experience afternoon showers, with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas.
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu, are forecast to receive light to moderate showers. Tana River is expected to experience light daytime rainfall.
Besides the rainfall forecast, the meteorological department has warned of chilly nights in several parts of the country.
Nyandarua is expected to record the lowest minimum temperatures, with nighttime readings falling to 6°C on Saturday before dropping to 5°C on Sunday and remaining at that level on Monday.
Laikipia is forecast to record a minimum temperature of 10°C on Saturday, while Samburu is expected to experience nighttime temperatures of 11°C to 12°C.
West Pokot, Kericho, Narok and Nandi are also likely to experience cool nights, with minimum temperatures ranging between 10°C and 15°C.
In Nairobi, nighttime temperatures are expected to fall to 14°C on Saturday and Sunday, while daytime temperatures could reach a maximum of 28°C.
