Why this widow knelt on live TV to beg President Mahama
According to report by Ghanaweb on Saturday 10, October 2026, an organiser for the Controlled Food Suppliers Association (CFSA), Agnes Abeidu, has made an impassioned public plea to President John Dramani Mahama. She is urgently calling on the government to settle outstanding payments owed to the association. According to Abeidu, the prolonged delay in clearing these financial obligations has plunged her into severe economic hardship, leaving her struggling to provide basic necessities for her family and pay her children’s school fees.
During an emotional interview broadcast on UTV, Abeidu detailed the intense pressure she faces daily from creditors due to unpaid debts. The situation has grown so dire that some creditors have allegedly resorted to cursing her and threatening legal action, including police involvement.
Highlighting her vulnerability as a widow, she made a direct and heartfelt appeal: “President Mahama, I am a widow. Please pay us so I can pay my children’s school fees”.
Abeidu explained that the constant harassment and financial strain have stripped away any sense of peace, making it difficult for her and others in similar positions to feel secure even within their own homes. “We cannot even stay at home,” she stated on UTV. With tears in her eyes, she reiterated her plea for government intervention so that she can finally settle her debts, restore her dignity, and secure an education for her children.
