Kenyans React as Sifuna Finally Reveals the Fate of Millions of Shillings Collected During Rallies

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has revealed that he has kept the money Kenyans contributed during Linda Mwananchi rallies in a bucket, saying the cash reminds him of the people he wants to serve.

Speaking during a media interview on Friday, October 9, Sifuna said he had not spent the KSh50 notes collected from supporters. He explained that the money holds a special meaning because it came from ordinary Kenyans who support his political journey.

“I have kept all the money Kenyans contributed to us in that bucket. I have kept all of it to remind myself who I am doing this for,” Sifuna said.

The senator added that he hopes to carry the bucket to State House and place it on his desk if he eventually becomes president. He said the money would remind him of the supporters who helped him pursue his political ambitions.

Sifuna mentioned women traders from Kiminini and Kamukuywa among those whose contributions inspired him. He noted that the small notes represented the efforts of people who work hard to earn their daily income.

The remarks come as Sifuna continues to build his political movement ahead of the 2027 General Election. He has encouraged Kenyans to support the Linda Mwananchi initiative through small contributions instead of depending on wealthy individuals to finance political activities.

His fundraising approach has also attracted public attention, with questions raised about how the money collected is managed. In September, a man who said he had contributed KSh55 moved to court seeking a detailed account of the funds raised and how they had been spent.

Sifuna has previously said the movement would account for the money received and explain how it was used to support its activities.

His latest remarks are likely to keep the discussion about grassroots fundraising and political accountability alive as leaders prepare for the next election.

Do you think small contributions from ordinary Kenyans can make a big difference in the 2027 elections?
