The 24-year-old guard is eligible for a significant contract extension under the WNBA’s new collective bargaining agreement, but she has yet to begin serious discussions about accepting it.

Speaking during Indiana’s season-ending press conference Thursday, Clark acknowledged the financial opportunity while emphasizing the importance of building a roster capable of competing for championships.

“Yeah, I think there’s a lot of things to think about,” Clark said. “Obviously, it’s great that I have that opportunity.”

Her comments came after the Fever’s first-round playoff defeat against the Las Vegas Aces, bringing an end to a season in which Clark averaged a career-high 22.3 points and 8.3 assists.

The WNBA’s new Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract provision, known as EPIC, allows qualifying young players to renegotiate their rookie contracts and secure extensions earlier than previously permitted.

Clark could earn a projected $1.3 million in 2027 and $1.7 million in 2028, but she isn’t the only member of the 2024 draft class positioned to benefit.

“Obviously it’s a really cool opportunity,” Clark said. “I think it’s something that’s great that was added to the CBA to kind of reward young players that are on their rookie deals.”

“I think now Angel [Reese] will be able to get onto her EPIC as well. Obviously, we saw Aliyah Boston get onto her EPIC.”

The reference to Angel Reese, now with the Atlanta Dream, was notable given the rivalry between the two players dating back to their college basketball careers.

However, Clark didn’t indicate that she intends to wait for Reese’s decision before making her own. Instead, she highlighted how the agreement benefits emerging stars across the league.

Indiana already has experience negotiating under the new provision after Aliyah Boston signed a four-year, $6.3 million extension ahead of the 2026 season.

The franchise must now address several other major contracts, particularly with Kelsey Mitchell approaching unrestricted free agency and Sophie Cunningham also potentially available.

Clark believes those decisions must be considered before she commits to an extension that could affect Indiana’s salary-cap flexibility.

“I certainly know what I deserve and what I’m worth, but at the same time, sometimes you have to make sacrifices,” she said.

“I’m not saying I’m not going to sign it. I’m not saying I am going to sign it. We haven’t gotten into those discussions.”

Despite the uncertainty, Clark made clear that she is not contemplating leaving Indiana.

“No matter what, I’m going to be here,” she said. “I just want to do what’s best for the team and make sure we have the opportunity to be able to win championships.”
