Black Stars: We are between the devil and the rock – Kudjoe Fianoo

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Kudjoe Fianoo has urged Ghana to consider home-based players for next month’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Somalia.

Speaking to Sporty FM, Fianoo said the Black Stars could use players from the domestic league to help improve their chances of qualifying for the tournament.

“As you suggested, we’ll be playing in Somalia. Are you not bringing the home supporters to the stadium? If you bring two Kotoko players, are you not inviting Kotoko supporters to come and support the players? One from Medeama. People will come from Tarkwa to come and see their player playing for the Black Stars,” he said.

“Look, we are between the devil and the rock. Operation Somalia. We have used all our best players in Europe. So why don’t we try this hybrid?”

Fianoo admitted that Ghana may not have a strong group of local players who can be selected as a team in the same way Attuquayefio did. However, he believes the country can still find suitable players.

“We don’t have a solid team that we can put in whole like how Sir Cecil Jones did, but I believe that even though we are having challenges with the champion, we will get one from somewhere,” he added.
