Sifuna: This is Why I Nolonger Visit Fred’s Ranch For Relaxation

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has humorously explained why he no longer visits veteran broadcaster Fred Obach Machoka’s Fred’s Ranch for nyama choma and relaxation.

Sifuna made the remarks in the Senate on Tuesday when lawmakers welcomed a delegation of veteran media personalities led by Machoka.

The Nairobi senator recalled that he used to be a regular visitor to Fred’s Ranch before his circumstances changed.

“Machoka knows that before my life changed dramatically, I was a regular visitor at his premises, Fred’s Ranch,” Sifuna said.

He added that Machoka was aware of the restrictions that had been imposed on his life, joking that this was the reason he had not been seen at the establishment for some time.

Sifuna also praised Kenya’s independent media and recognised Royal Media Services founder S.K. Macharia for creating platforms that have helped nurture local talent and provide opportunities for generations of entertainers.

He later turned his attention to Machoka’s upcoming celebration marking 50 years in broadcasting. The event is scheduled for Saturday at Lenana Grounds.

Sifuna joked about the Sh25,000 ticket price, saying the amount might be affordable for some leaders but was difficult for him under his current circumstances.

He then suggested that he would ask Machoka to let him attend the event in his capacity as Nairobi senator.

“The Sh25,000 might be easy for the Majority Leader, but for me, I’ll be speaking to Fred Obach Machoka to allow me into the venue as Senator of Nairobi,” he said.

The light-hearted exchange came during a Senate session that also recognised veteran media personalities and their contribution to Kenya’s broadcasting and entertainment industries.

Machoka is set to mark five decades in broadcasting during the celebrations, bringing together colleagues, former media personalities and other guests to honour his long career.
