Pakistan says ending terrorism from Afghan soil essential for regional peace

Pakistan has warned that rising terrorism from Afghanistan is continuously targeting Pakistan and the wider region.

Speaking at the eighth Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan in Russia, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, strongly criticised the Taliban regime’s policies and the growing threat of terrorism in Afghanistan.

Sadiq said terrorism was the root cause of Afghanistan’s crisis, while an alliance of the Taliban regime with Fitna al-Khawarij, Fitna al-Hindustan, ETIM, Islamic State-Khorasan and Al Qaeda posed a serious threat to the region.

He said terrorism emerging from Afghanistan was continuously targeting Pakistan and the region, adding that Pakistan could not tolerate the situation any longer.

Sadiq said Pakistan’s actions were directed only against terrorist groups based on Afghan soil that posed a threat to Pakistan and the region.

Despite Pakistan’s political and diplomatic efforts and goodwill measures, he said, terrorist attacks from Afghan soil had increased.

Pakistan wants peace and stability in Afghanistan, Sadiq said, but ending terrorism from Afghan soil was essential for regional peace.
