ASOS app hack: Customers receive terrifying push notifications from cybercriminals
Add ARY News on GoogleFollow on Google DiscoverImage: ASOSAAResizeASOS customers got an unexpected notification from the retailer’s app on Tuesday, as hackers claimed they had broken into the company’s systems.
ASOS is investigating what happened, but the company has not yet said how serious the breach is or whether any customer data was involved.
The notification was titled “ASOS hacked” and was sent to the company’s Data Protection Officer and IT team. In it, the attackers said they had “fully compromised” an ASOS Snowflake instance and threatened to leak information unless the company got in touch.
The notification also included a link to a Telegram channel, which appears to be run by a group called Xuanye Group.
Snowflake is a cloud platform businesses use to store, process, and analyze large amounts of data. Right now, it is not clear what ASOS kept on the platform or what the attackers may have accessed.
What is most concerning is that the message came through the official ASOS app. Cybersecurity experts say that sending a push notification to customers could mean the attackers accessed more than just a database, but their claims have not been confirmed.
Until ASOS shares more information, customers should watch out for suspicious emails, texts, or messages about the incident and avoid clicking on unfamiliar links.
