Early education key to Pakistan’s bright future: Governor Nehal

KARACHI  – Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has said that investing in early childhood education is, in fact, an investment in Pakistan’s bright future. He emphasized that the foundation of a strong and developed Pakistan can only be laid through quality education, proper upbringing and character-building of children from an early age.

He expressed these views while addressing the 4th ECCE International Summit 2026, organized by the Institute of Early Childhood Education and Development (IECED), as the chief guest. The theme of the summit was “Reimagining Early Childhood Care and Education.” The Governor stated that the pursuit of knowledge and education is a divine command, and knowledge holds fundamental importance in every sphere of life. He emphasized that children must receive not only education but also proper upbringing, with greater focus on promoting civility, toler-ance, respect and humanity for the betterment of society.

He observed that a person’s conduct reflects his or her upbringing and family values; therefore, posi-tive changes in individual behaviour are essential for social improvement. Parents and teachers both have a fundamental role in shaping a child’s personality. Hashmi highlighted that teachers engaged in early childhood education lay the foundation for the fu-ture of the nation.  Therefore, the most capable and talented members of society should be encouraged to join the edu-cation and training sector. Modern teacher training, parental involvement and a safe and nurturing learning environment for children require special attention.

The Governor remarked that ghost employees are stealing the dreams of our children. There should be no room for absenteeism or corruption in the education system. If those entrusted with the educa-tion and upbringing of children do not perform their responsibilities honestly, it will not be possible to develop a better and responsible generation. He stressed that providing equal educational opportunities to every child, regardless of social or eco-nomic background, is a collective responsibility. No child in Pakistan should be deprived of quality early childhood education, proper care or basic rights. The Governor noted that women are playing a prominent role in promoting education and nurturing the new generation, which is encouraging. Pakistan has produced talented women in various fields who have brought honour to the country.

Providing women with greater opportunities to contribute effectively to education, training and na-tional development is an important need of the time.

He further stated that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah played an important role in the upbringing of Fatima Jinnah, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in the upbringing of Benazir Bhutto, and Nawaz Sharif in the up-bringing of Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He underscored that guidance and upbringing, alongside education, play a fundamental role in shaping an individual’s personality. Nehal Hashmi highlighted that various initiatives under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, includ-ing the Digital Youth Hub, are helping young people meet the demands of the modern era. He empha-sized the need to encourage such initiatives aimed at empowering youth and women. He stressed that technology should be used wisely in children’s education; however, it cannot replace the human relationship between teachers, parents and children.
