No More Secrets: Wajackoyah Reveals Who He Believes Can Unseat Ruto — Details
George Wajackoyah has made a notable claim about Martha Karua’s potential role in the 2027 presidential contest, saying she is the most preferred candidate to challenge President William Ruto.
Wajackoyah made the remarks while discussing the opposition’s efforts to identify a candidate capable of mounting a serious challenge against Ruto in the next General Election.
“Martha Karua is the most preferred candidate to unseat Ruto,” Wajackoyah said.
His statement comes as opposition parties and political leaders continue to debate how they can unite behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
Karua, a former Justice Minister and former Deputy Prime Minister, has already been named as a presidential candidate by the People’s Liberation Party. She has also participated in discussions involving opposition leaders seeking to coordinate their political activities.
However, available polling data shows that public preference for Karua varies depending on the question and the survey. An Infotrak survey conducted in June 2026 among 3,000 adults found Karua with 2 per cent support among respondents asked to choose the opposition’s preferred presidential candidate.
A separate Politrack survey conducted between September 15 and 25, 2026, placed Karua at 0.8 per cent in a national presidential preference question. The same survey placed Ruto at 45.1 per cent and Edwin Sifuna at 19.6 per cent.
Wajackoyah’s remarks therefore add another voice to the continuing debate over who could emerge as the opposition’s presidential candidate.
The opposition has yet to settle on a single candidate, with several prominent figures expressing interest or being discussed by supporters. The process is expected to involve negotiations between political parties and leaders as they seek to build broader alliances.
Karua’s supporters have continued to highlight her political experience and previous involvement in national politics as they campaign for her candidacy.
With the 2027 election approaching, statements from political leaders are likely to keep the question of the opposition’s preferred presidential candidate at the centre of national debate.
