Not Six: Fresh Twist as Chivayo’s Officer Exposes the Exact Number of People Who Lost Their Lives
Wicknell Chivayo’s security officer has dismissed earlier reports that six people perished in the helicopter crash, insisting that only five individuals were aboard.
Foster Chisi was travelling in a second helicopter alongside other protection staff. He stated that the aircraft that went down carried Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke, Lucy’s private assistant and two pilots.
Police announced on the day of the accident that six people were inside, so his version contradicts theirs.
Chisi addressed reporters at Kudenga Farm, roughly 85 kilometres east of Harare, where the Bell 430 aircraft came down on the evening of Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
He explained that both helicopters departed Harare at 3PM for Chivayo’s countryside residence in Chivhu and began the journey back at 4.20PM.
En route, conditions in the sky deteriorated. Chisi’s pilot proposed an alternative path through Bromley.
According to him, the pilot carrying Chivayo repeatedly reported over the radio that he was in poor weather and had not escaped the clouds.
His final message indicated he was passing over Surrey.Shortly afterwards, Chisi’s pilot announced they were ten minutes from their destination.
The other pilot sounded bewildered and asked, “Which destination?” Marondera came the answer, yet no response followed. Contact was severed entirely.
Chisi’s helicopter touched down in Marondera and held position.
When the second aircraft failed to arrive, the protection team flew to Harare to fetch road vehicles, assuming it might have landed elsewhere because of the storm.
After more than an hour of unsuccessful phone calls to Chivayo, his wife and the crew, news arrived that the helicopter had crashed and there were no survivors.
Police verified the crash and said the cause remains under investigation.
The debris lay scattered across more than 50 metres of farmland, so forensic teams had to gather human remains for DNA testing to identify the victims.
The couple had left the site of their rural home construction about 40 minutes before the crash.
Chivayo is a prominent Zimbabwean businessman, and investigators are still working to determine what went wrong.
