Not 6: Unexpected Twist as Tycoon Chivayo’s Bodyguard Reveals Exact Number of People Who Died

Wicknell Chivayo’s bodyguard has dismissed earlier reports that six people died in the helicopter accident, saying only five people were inside the aircraft when it crashed.

Froster Chisi, a security aide who was travelling in another helicopter, said the aircraft carrying Chivayo had five occupants. They included the businessman, his wife Lucy Muteke, Lucy’s personal assistant and two pilots.

Chisi’s account differs from an earlier statement issued by Zimbabwean police, which reported that six people were aboard the helicopter when it went down on September 30, 2026.

The security aide also shared details of the final moments before the aircraft disappeared from radio contact.

He said the two helicopters had left Harare at around 3pm and travelled to Gandami in Chivhu, where Chivayo had been supervising the construction of his rural home.

The helicopters started their return trip at about 4.20pm, but the weather conditions became increasingly difficult. Thick clouds made it challenging for the pilots to see clearly and find their way.

According to Chisi, Chivayo’s pilot repeatedly reported that he was caught in bad weather and had not managed to leave the clouds.

The pilot’s final known radio message placed him over Surrey. Shortly afterwards, Chisi’s pilot said their aircraft was about 10 minutes from reaching its destination.

The other pilot then appeared unsure about where they were heading and asked which destination they were approaching.

Chisi said his pilot replied that they were heading to Marondera, but no response came from the other aircraft.

Chisi’s helicopter later landed in Marondera and waited for the second aircraft.

When it failed to arrive, the security team headed back towards Harare to collect vehicles, believing the helicopter could have landed somewhere because of the poor weather.

After more than an hour of unsuccessful attempts to contact Chivayo, his wife and the crew, information emerged that the helicopter had crashed and there were no survivors.

Zimbabwean police confirmed the accident and said investigations into what caused the crash were continuing.

The wreckage was spread across more than 50 metres of farmland, while forensic teams worked to recover human remains for DNA identification.

The crash has attracted widespread attention because Chivayo was a prominent Zimbabwean businessman.
