Karachiites’ Voice

Karachiites’ Voice

Karachi, once celebrated as the City of Lights, has been engulfed in darkness. Several factors have contributed to this situation, but a few pressing concerns deserve particular attention.

One major issue is rampant inflation, which continues to affect the middle and lower-middle classes and society as a whole. Economic hardship can contribute to social problems such as street crime, robbery, dacoity and kidnapping, creating an increasingly insecure environment.

Another grave concern is the reported rise in cases of rape and murder. Innocent lives, including those of children, continue to be lost. Too often, such cases fade from public attention without a sense of justice for the victims. A society that fails to protect its most vulnerable members must seriously examine its moral and institutional shortcomings.

Load-shedding is another persistent problem. Citizens are forced to endure prolonged power outages, while faults can take hours or even an entire day to repair. This places an additional burden on households already facing financial difficulties.

These are only some of the problems confronting Karachi, yet they affect the daily lives of its residents. The government must recognise that people are already struggling with personal, financial and domestic pressures and should take meaningful steps to ease, rather than aggravate, their difficulties.
