Tanzania attends the climax of AIIB’s Annual Meeting in Qatar as Azerbaijan honoured to host its 2027 session

DOHA: THE Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has concluded its 11th Annual Meeting in Qatar, officially announcing that the Republic of Azerbaijan will host the bank’s 12th Annual Meeting in 2027.

At a handover ceremony held at the conclusion of the meeting and witnessed by Tanzania’s Minister for Finance and AIIB Governor, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, Qatar’s Minister of Economy, Al-Kuwari, handed over the chairmanship gavel to Azerbaijan’s Governor, Mikayil Jabbarov.

The ceremony marked the end of Qatar’s hosting of the annual meeting and the beginning of preparations for the 2027 gathering in Azerbaijan.

Governor Jabbarov said Azerbaijan was well prepared to host the meeting, noting that the country had extensive experience in organising major international conferences. He cited COP29, held in 2024, and the Islamic Development Bank’s annual meeting held in Baku in 2026 as examples.

According to Jabbarov, the 2027 meeting will focus on strengthening cooperation in infrastructure, clean energy and digital infrastructure. He said Azerbaijan, as a founding member of AIIB, views the meeting as an opportunity to strengthen ties among countries in Asia, Africa and Europe.

AIIB President Zou Jiayi thanked the Qatari government for hosting the meeting and expressed confidence in continued cooperation with Azerbaijan in preparations for the 2027 event.

The 2027 Annual Meeting is expected to play an important role in shaping the bank’s future development priorities.
