Amit Shah to Address BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ Concluding Rally in Jalandhar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Jalandhar on Wednesday to address the concluding rally of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, a statewide campaign against drug abuse that has covered all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab.

Four yatras, launched simultaneously from different parts of the state on September 18, are scheduled to converge at the rally venue after covering nearly 4,000 km across Punjab.

The BJP expects around two lakh people to attend the event, which is being organised at a site spread over 50 to 55 acres. Around 40 acres have been earmarked for the main gathering, while the remaining area will be used for parking. Nearly 2,000 buses carrying party workers and supporters from different parts of the state are expected to reach Jalandhar for the rally, according to party leaders.

The programme is also expected to highlight the experiences of families affected by drug abuse and draw public attention to the party’s campaign for a drug-free Punjab.

The rally comes as the BJP steps up its political activities in the state ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. The party has made drug abuse one of its principal campaign issues and has criticised the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over its handling of the problem. The AAP government, meanwhile, has maintained its commitment to tackling the drug menace.

BJP leaders have described the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ as an effort to raise awareness about drug abuse and encourage public participation in the fight against addiction.

To review preparations for the rally, Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon and the party’s state in-charge, Satish Poonia, visited the venue. They held discussions with officials on security arrangements, traffic management, parking, public convenience and other logistical requirements.

Dhillon said Punjab was facing a serious drug menace and that the BJP was reaching out to people across the state to raise awareness. He said the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ was aimed at educating people in villages and cities about the harmful effects of drugs.
