A Plane Full of Passengers Makes Emergency Landing After 2 Pilots Start Fighting Mid-Air

A Flydubai passenger jet flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv was forced to land in Saudi Arabia after the two pilots allegedly got into a physical fight in the cockpit.

The aircraft left Dubai International Airport in the early hours of the morning. It carried about 150 people, most of them Israeli nationals.About two hours into the journey, the plane sent out an emergency distress code. The signal was picked up by the flight tracking service Flightradar24, as reported by BBC News.

The situation then took a more alarming turn. The aircraft briefly switched to a code linked to hijackings before returning to the general emergency signal, according to the tracking service.

The air force scrambled fighter jets, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called urgent consultations to assess the situation.

Israeli officials soon clarified that they did not believe a hijacking had taken place.

Local media, citing Israeli defence officials, reported that the distress signals were triggered by a physical altercation between the captain and the co-pilot.

The reason for the confrontation was not immediately clear.

Instead of continuing to its scheduled destination at Ben Gurion Airport, the plane was diverted and landed at Tabuk Airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia. There was no immediate word on the condition of the passengers or the pilots.

A Flydubai spokesperson said the airline’s teams were working closely with the relevant authorities. The spokesperson added that more updates would be shared once further details were confirmed.

The incident drew immediate concern because of the sensitive nature of air travel between the United Arab Emirates and Israel.

Flights between the two countries began after they normalised diplomatic relations in 2020, and the route has since become important for business, tourism and family travel.

Aviation safety rules require pilots to remain calm and coordinated at all times, and airlines have strict procedures for handling any dispute in the cockpit.

Emergency and hijack codes are meant to alert air traffic controllers and security agencies at once, which explains the fast response seen in this case.

The episode showed how quickly a disagreement among crew members at cruising altitude can lead to emergency signals, fighter jet deployment and high-level government action.
