After the No. 8 seed New York Liberty stole Game 1 of the first-round WNBA playoff series, the Lynx must win Game 2 in New York on Tuesday, Sept. 29, to set up a decisive Game 3 at home in Minneapolis.

Liberty veteran forward Breanna Stewart led New York to a 91-75 win over the Lynx on Sunday with a game-high 34 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks, becoming the first player in WNBA playoff history to record 30-plus points, 10-plus rebounds, 5-plus assists and two steals.

But the Liberty aren’t celebrating just yet. New York found themselves in a similar scenario last year with a 1-0 lead over the Phoenix Mercury in the first-round of the 2026 WNBA Playoffs. The Liberty subsequently lost the series after getting blown out on their home court and dropping a winner-take-all Game 3 on the road.

“This doesn’t mean relax. (Minnesota) is obviously really exceptionally talented and they’re going to throw everything they got at us on Tuesday,” Stewart said on Sunday. “We did this in Phoenix (last year) and then we got smoked on our home court. So being really intentional for the adjustments we’re going to make.”

The Lynx’s adjustments will likely center around cleaning up “self-inflicted” wounds, as Lynx guard Kayla McBride put it, including ball security. The Lynx gave up 24 points off 13 turnovers and shot 35% from the 3-point line (9-of-26), compared to New York shooting 52% from the 3-point line (13-of-25). Lynx rookie guard Olivia Miles finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and one assist in the first WNBA playoff game of her career.
