Just Hours After Doctors Warned Oburu to Step Back From Active Politics, ODM Sends This to Sifuna

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has called on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to return to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying the party would welcome him back.

Barasa made the remarks as political activity around Sifuna and the future of ODM continues to attract attention ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Addressing the senator, Barasa said, “Sifuna, Kama ulikua unapenda Baba rudi kwa chama cha ODM. Tutakukaribisha tena.”

The governor was referring to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who played a major role in building ODM into one of Kenya’s major political parties.

Barasa’s message comes at a time when Sifuna is pursuing a different political path through the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Recent reports indicate that Sifuna’s camp has been working on a political party as the movement prepares for the next stage of its political activities. The issue of the party name has also attracted attention, with the Ukombozi name becoming part of a wider political dispute.

Barasa has previously criticised Sifuna’s political direction. In his latest remarks, however, he directly appealed to the senator to return to ODM.

The call comes as different opposition leaders continue discussing possible political partnerships ahead of the 2027 polls.

On September 23, reports indicated that Barasa had also questioned Sifuna’s political alliances and urged him to reconsider his direction.

Meanwhile, Sifuna and his allies have continued with plans to establish a political vehicle for their movement. Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has also publicly linked Sifuna to the United Democratic Party, although the final political arrangement remains subject to developments within the movement.

Barasa’s latest remarks therefore add another voice to the ongoing debate over Sifuna’s political future and his relationship with ODM.

The developments are expected to keep attracting attention as political parties and leaders prepare for the 2027 General Election.
