Heavy Rainfall and Extreme Cold to Be Experienced in These Regions Starting Sunday Evening

The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority has issued a five-day forecast projecting moderate to heavy rains across several regions, including Nairobi, alongside a separate cold-weather advisory for Central Kenya.

The forecast, released Saturday, September 26, 2026, covers the period through Wednesday, September 30. Nairobi residents have been told to expect lighter rains on Sunday night and into Monday morning and night.

Coastal counties, among them Mombasa, Kwale, Lamu and Kilifi, are projected to receive light showers on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights.

In the east, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui, Machakos and Makueni are expected to see light rains, mostly over Sunday and Monday nights.

Central Kenya counties, including Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a and Kiambu, are forecast to record light rains primarily on Monday and Tuesday.

Western Kenya and the Rift Valley are also on the rain list, with West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Kericho, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia expected to receive light rains from Saturday through Tuesday, while Kericho could see moderate showers on Monday and Tuesday.

Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Bomet, Kisii and Nyamira are forecast to record light showers as well, and Lake Victoria counties, including Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kisii and Siaya, are expected to get rain, with Siaya possibly seeing further light showers from Wednesday to Thursday.

Alongside the rainfall outlook, Kenya Met flagged unusually cold nights ahead for Central Kenya over the coming five days.

Nyandarua is expected to record the lowest night temperatures nationally, ranging between 5°C and 9°C, while Nairobi's nights could dip to 12°C.

Samburu is projected to experience lows of 7°C to 12°C, Laikipia between 11°C and 14°C, Nyeri and Murang'a between 13°C and 15°C, and Kiambu between 11°C and 14°C.

In contrast, warmer conditions are expected in the north and east, with Mandera and Turkana forecast to hit highs of up to 38°C and Wajir reaching 35°C.
